Paul Kayhart has been gathering sound in recorded form since he was 12 years old and has possessed at least one recording device at any point in time since then.

Kayhart’s compositions are variously evocative, emotive, and provocative. Works range from collaborative elements for installation and performance pieces to site-specific and recorded compositions and tracks for video. 

Published work includes Thorn Upon the Rose, CD (from a residency at The Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig) accompanying the book of that title by Elizabeth Lide; Machine, an apocalyptic multilayered composition included on the album La Resistance c'est Homegrown from frequeNC Records; and Bird2 a limited edition CD.

Commissions include scores for publicly presented performances by choreographers Nicole Livieratos (Turn The Page at FLUX Night, Doubt for EDGE in Unexpected Spaces, Path 1 at Whitespace in Atlanta) and Blake Beckham (Terminal at Emory University and Dearly Departures at Drama Tech Theater, GA Tech.)

Exhibitions include solo and collaborative works at MOCA GA, Atlanta; whitespec at Whitespace, Atlanta; Atlanta Contemporary (formerly Nexus); Sandler Hudson Gallery, Atlanta; The Daniel Wadsworth Memorial Video Festival, Hartford, CT; The Mattress Factory Show, Atlanta; La Mama La Galleria, NYC; and ArtFields in SC.

Paul has been awarded residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA), The Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Ireland, VCCA-France at Moulin à Nef in Auvillar, France, and The Hambidge Center. He has received an Alternate Visions Grant (NEA, Rockefeller and Warhol Foundations); Artists Space Project Grant, New York City; and three Individual Artist Grants from the Bureau of Cultural Affairs, Atlanta.

Paul has audio works in the archives at Radius in Chicago and at the Free Music Archive in conjunction with Wave Farm. The works have been featured on radio with simultaneous internet streaming.
